U.S. Statistics - Living Arrangements of Children

A recent report from the Institute for Family Studies looked at data from the U.S. Census Bureau to better understand the living arrangements of children throughout the United States. The 2014 data released from the Bureau shows that 43 million children throughout the United States live with both their birth mother and biological father in a traditional married-couple family. This represents a 58% majority. In addition, only 2.7 million children (or just 4%) live with two birth parents who are not married.

Legislation Proposed To Extend Foster Care Age Limits

A new bill has recently been introduced in the Ohio House of Representatives that would bring changes to the foster care age limit. According to the current Ohio laws, foster care maintenance and adoption assistance payments for a child generally terminate at age 18 because funding is unavailable after the end of the month of the child's 18th birthday. House Bill 50, however, seeks to expand federal Title IV-E foster care and adoption assistance payments in order to make extend the time frame for payments until the person turns 21.

Ohio Grandparents Seek to Adopt Grandsons from Foster Parents

The adoption process typically involves only the child being adopted and the adopting parent or parents. The adoption process, however, can also involve numerous other parties such as stepparents, grandparents, biological parents, government agencies, and any other persons with interests in the child.
